Love the Theatre, But Have Nobody to Go With?
“I used to love going to the theatre.”
It's one of those sentences that can easily be followed by:
“…but I don't really have anyone to go with anymore.”
Perhaps your partner was the person you always went with.
Maybe you no longer drive and getting there has become difficult.
Perhaps you're perfectly capable of going, but the thought of travelling there, finding your seat and coming home alone takes some of the enjoyment out of it.
Or maybe you'd simply rather have someone sitting next to you when the curtain goes up.
Whatever the reason, getting older shouldn't mean quietly giving up the things that make life enjoyable.
Sometimes the problem isn't the theatre – it's everything around it
Buying a ticket is the easy bit. It's the daunting questions:
- How will I get there?
- Who will I go with?
- What if I need a little help?
- Will I be home late?
- I haven't been for years – will I feel comfortable?
These little worries can turn something that once felt exciting into something that feels like too much trouble.
So the answer becomes:
“Maybe next time.”
We'd like to make next time this time.
Come to the theatre with Companion Grove
We're organising a Companion Grove theatre trip for people who'd like to enjoy a show with some friendly company around them.
It's not just about watching the performance.
It's about the anticipation beforehand, the conversations on the way, finding your seats together, having someone to chat to during the interval and discussing whether it was brilliant – or absolutely terrible – afterwards!
Most importantly, you don't have to worry about going alone.
What if I've never joined you before?
That's absolutely fine.
You don't need to already receive support from Companion Grove to be interested in one of our community activities.
We know that walking into something new can sometimes be the hardest part.
That's why we want our trips to feel relaxed, friendly and welcoming – particularly for people who may have lost a little confidence getting out and about.
You won't be expected to arrive and somehow “fit in”.
We'll be there to welcome you.
Could this be someone you know?
Perhaps you're reading this because you're worried about Mum, Dad, a neighbour or somebody else you care about.
Maybe they used to go to out regularly but haven't been since losing their partner.
Perhaps they've stopped driving.
Maybe they don't see friends as often as they once did.
Or you've simply heard them say:
“I'd love to go, but I've got nobody to go with.”
Tell them about us.
Sometimes reconnecting with life doesn't need to begin with something enormous.
It can start with one afternoon out.
Because companionship shouldn't stop at the front door
At Companion Grove CIC, we believe companionship is about much more than having someone pop in for a cup of tea.
Sometimes a cup of tea is exactly what's wanted.
Other times, it's theatre tickets.
A trip somewhere new.
Lunch out.
Returning to an old hobby. Starting a new hobby?
Visiting somewhere you've always wanted to see.
Or simply having somebody alongside you so that you can say yes again.
That's what we're here for.

A group of our members together, with their family catching up, making friends and most of all getting out and about with confidence.
